Cornwall: Strange campsites and magical coves

A story of holidays past in the magical kingdom of Cornwall

I hope you have been enjoying the sunny weather we've had (if you are in England of course). I know I have. 

At this time of year (and weather) my mind wanders to Cornwall. It really is my favourite place to holiday. I've been going there since my early 20s and I always stay on the Lizard Peninsula. 

On my first visit, I stayed with my partner at Kennack sands where we visited nearby Cadgwith Cove. I can remember being overwhelmed with how beautiful it was. I couldn't believe there could be somewhere so magical.

Friday night at the Cadgwith Cove Inn was always the place to be. Local fishermen would gather at about 9pm and sing sea shanties. The whole pub would end up joining in the singing while dining on the seafood brought up from the beach that same day. I'm sure many pints of 'Doom Bar' would be ordered too!

I've stayed on the Lizard Peninsula with many friends over the years in various types of accommodation. From cosy cottages, caravans, to a very basic campsite in my 20s.

The campsite that we stayed at had 'bathroom facilities' that turned out to be a shed with a corrugated iron roof, a rather aged shower curtain and a suspect bit of old carpet on the floor that doubled up as a bathmat. Needless to say, we showered in our flip flops.

The campsite itself could be navigated by driving through a field which was scattered with old rusting cars, farm machinery and ancient caravans. We saw the funny side of it all and decided to do a photoshoot of the campsites main highlights.

When all was said and done, the campsite had wonderful views so we couldn't really complain. Anyway, here is the result of our photoshoot. 

So there you have some experiences of my holidays in Cornwall dear reader. Some beautiful, some joyful and some very funny. I'd love to hear about your favourite parts of Cornwall and the experiences you've had there.
